June ’11: Italia Telecom, Brindisi, Italy
I came back from Mexico City to Paris, and literally had to leave the following morning! Not that I’m complaining though, I would take any reason to visit one of my favorite countries: Italy!
I participated in a round table about the future of Telecom with Italia Telecom CEO Marco Patuano, journalist Gianni Riotta and joining via Skype, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone.
One of the many interesting nuggets I heard over the course of this conversation was Marco’s observation that while everyone was obsessing over Fiber Optic cables, he was more concerned with mobile especially for helping to close Italy’s digital divide for those who are in hard to reach, rural areas.
The conference took place in one of the most spectacular hotels I have ever been to: the Borgo Egnazia. It was just absolutely stunning. I think I spent half the time with my jaw on the ground! The entire resort resembled an old, walled city made of white stone. My room had a view of the stunning pool. I wished I had taken advantage of staying the weekend, but unfortunately we had some visitors in Paris and I had to head home the next morning.
